What this means in the United States
American farmland is measured in acres and always has been: the Public Land Survey grid that covers most of the country cuts a section of 640 acres into quarters of 160 and forties of 40, which is why field size here is a survey fact before it is a measurement. The United States has no federal ceiling on nitrogen per acre, so this edition prints a state extension recommendation range instead of a legal limit, and says which it is.
